“Don’t feed the trolls” is a common thing to say when people complain about these pesky internet creatures. But as internettrolling is increasingly taking the forms of organised cyberharassment, ignoring them is not an option. In her talk, Maia explains how online harassment threatens freedom of speech and has a few suggestions on what *you* should do, when you meet trolls in the digital forests. Maia is an author, tech-activist and strategic advisor living and working in Denmark, Copenhagen. She works with the network Cybernauterne to teach cybersecurity and digital litteracy, and she’s a founder of the tech-activist collective DO:TOPIA. Her work focuses on online harassment and trolling on social media, and their effects on public discourse. She published the book «Can trolls be tamed?» in Danish in the spring 2019. She also researches and spreads awareness on internet subcultures and online extremism. Maia has a background in the non-profit world, having worked as a digital strategist for Greenpeace and Amnesty International. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
