Two PhD Candidates for 'Gender in Academic Careers'

Your duties will be: designing and conducting research, training in connection with the research project and a limited amount of teaching at the Nijmegen School of Management. The research must lead to a PhD thesis.



Two PhD positions are available, covering the following areas:



27.20.13/1: Gender Equality Training in Science through Group Model Building

This is a comparative research project on gender equality in academia in eight countries, focusing on the effects of gender equality training. You will examine how Group Model Building involves stakeholders in a science faculty in the issue of gender equality.



27.20.13/2: Gendering the Academy and Research: Combating Career Instability and Asymmetries

This is a comparative research project on gender and precarious workers in academia in seven countries. You will examine how gender affects the career possibilities of young academics in an era of austerity, new managerialism and globalization.



The positions are financed through two grants from the seventh framework programme of the European Community for Research. Precondition for both positions is the final signature of the contract by the EU. The PhD candidates will be formally employed by Radboud University Nijmegen. Both projects will be conducted within a broader European consortium of research partners.

Functie-eisen

You should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Management or Social Sciences and an interest in and knowledge of gender and diversity in organizations. A successfully completed Research Master’s degree programme and demonstrable experience in scientific research are highly desirable. You excel academically, as evidenced by grade transcripts and your curriculum vitae. For Position 1, you need a solid understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods as well as particular knowledge of Group Model Building or System Dynamics. For Position 2, advanced skills in qualitative research are essential, and experience in quantitative research is recommended. You have excellent written and spoken command of English and Dutch. You have the ability and interest to work in a team. The project particularly requires strong organizational skills and flexibility.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

- you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years;

- you will be classified as a PhD student (promovendus) in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO);

- the starting salary is €2,083 per month on a full-time basis; the salary will increase to €2,664 per month in the fourth year;

Intended start dates: 1st January 2014 (project 1) and 1st February 2014 (project 2).

The job interviews for project 1 are scheduled for 13th December, the job interviews for project 2 for 19th December.
